Midwife: “I’ll be there in a minute, hang on.”

Mother “Excuse me!”

Midwife: “I know, I’ll be with you in a minute.”

Mother: “EXCUSE ME! I think the baby has been born.”

- Certified Nurse Midwife to mother, after the mother severely startled when the midwife, without speaking, inserted her fingers for a vaginal exam from behind, while the mother, with an epidural, lay on her side away from the midwife.

- Child Health Nurse notes from developmental assessment of 18 month old child. The child had ignored the nurse when she called him the wrong name on 3 occasions during the visit, using a different name each time, despite being corrected by the mother. (Answered mother’s call with correct name several times during the assessment.)
