“So when do we want to schedule the induction?” -OB to mother having her second child, after a non-medicated and intervention free first birth.
When the mother asked why does she need to schedule an induction, the OB responded, “So you can schedule child care for your older child?”

“I understand. I can’t give you those other things, but I’ll let you have twinkle lights.” -OB to mother during an OB consult in preparation for a homebirth, when the mother stated that she was looking forward to continuity of care, freedom of movement, ability to eat/drink, low interventions, and relaxed atmosphere.

“Oh, birth plans, birth plans, everyone has a birth plan, but we doctors, we just take those birth plans and toss ‘em right out the window!” – -On-call OB’s response when asked by a laboring mother if the OB had had a chance to read her birth plan. This comment was complete with hand gesture of tossing something over her shoulder.

This is what the hospital spokeswoman said to the reporter when asked about birth plans:
“Generally the mother agrees with the doctor. In the rare case that she doesn’t, there is a line of authority to override the mother’s wishes, but again, that’s unusual”- Hospital Spokesperson to reporter when asked about birth plans.
Intermountain Health Care is the company that owns both the hospital and the infamous Aspen Women’s Clinic where “The Sign” is posted.
