Nobody noticed my daughter’s tongue-tie when she was first born. It was very difficult to see, apparently, and I never did see it. Her latch looked fine, but didn’t feel quite right. When she was just under 3 months, it got really painful. I happened to see my midwife, and asked if she’d be able to tell. She felt around and said yes, it’s a tongue tie. I tried stretching it manually, but that didn’t help at all, so we scheduled to have it clipped when she was 4 months. At the pediatrician the day before, she weighed in at only 7 ounces more than a month before, but the pediatrician was very supportive and said the above. She nursed right after it was clipped, and her latch was no longer painful! I will be having future children checked within days of birth.
