Thoughtful Thursday! “…You Were The One She Wanted To Have Catch It.”

“You give her the baby, you were the one who she wanted to have catch it.” – L&D Nurse to the home birth midwife after a home birth transfer. The nurse gave the midwife the baby to give to the mother.

Calling baby an “it” is one of my pet peeves. But otherwise wonderful consideration.

I was thinking the same thing, but I’m wondering if mom had also requested to find out the sex herself, or the nurse just didn’t know it yet, or something. it doesn’t seem inherently bad in this case.

I know it’s here because the OP obviously found it considerate, but if someone had delayed giving me my baby after our homebirth transfer in favour of handing him to my midwife (much as I love her) first, I would’ve been furious. There must be extenuating circumstances here, because I really can’t conceive of any situation where keeping the baby needlessly from his/her mother (even for a second), particularly after a transfer, could be considered thoughtful.
