“In my entire career, I have never had a woman decline an exam….. but that’s just fine with me!” – Surprised OB to woman who declined a routine vaginal exam to check dilation at 39 weeks.

You see, without the end of the sentence, it would have been a regular MOSW submission, but because the doc was willing to go out the zone of what he’s used to, and mostly, because he was able to respect the woman as a partner in her care, he was quoted on Thursday.

A thousand times, hurrah!
I kind of love the thought process of this OB. “I’ve never encountered this before! But . . . well . . . hey, why not?” The willingness to learn, and to respect the patient’s wishes, is such a refreshing contrast to all the quotes on here where precedent trumps rights or reason. Way to go, Surprised!OB.
