“…I’m Better At My Job Than You Are At Yours. Your Job Was To Push Out The Baby.”
OB: “Hi, I’m Dr. Brown. I’ll be performing your surgery.”
Mother(in tears and between contractions): “It’s nice to meet you, doctor. The nurses tell me you’re very good at your job.”
OB: “Well, I’m better at my job than you are at yours. Your job was to push out the baby.”
Conversation before an unplanned cesarean between a mother and the surgeon.
Here dickhead, I’ll fix it for you:
“I’ll do the best I can to take care of you, and I’m sorry your birth isn’t going the way you planned. Are there any questions I can answer for you?”
Now was that really so hard?

My jaw just dropped. I can not imagine the audacity of this OB. What a horrible and demeaning thing to say to a woman at the most vulnerable moment of her life.
OP I am so sorry. I know how hard an unplanned C-section is and how long it takes to get past it and make peace with it.

The very first thing that came to mind was “I would have slapped that rude, arrogant, butthole!!!”

Wow. Way to proof what an ass you are (and where you got your head stuck) while someone in distress is actually saying something nice about you.

Wow! This one made me so angry I just do not have words!
OP I am so sorry you were spoken to this way

May I introduce you to my husband the attorney?

Does he have some magical way to sue a doctor for being rude?
I wish I had grounds to sue this guy, but I think I just got unlucky and scored a moody doc.

Unbelievable. Like I literally would not believe half the things posted here if I hadn’t actually experienced OB’s and midwives too for that matter saying some of the dumbest things. PP Being a doula IS hard, but its comments like this that make our job so important!

This one is mine. You’ll all be happy to know my husband did speak up to defend me. Unfortunately, we pretty much had no choice but to allow him to do my surgery, as our son was experiencing a significant difficulties.
Since this happened, I’ve been in to the doctors’ office several times. I’ve shared with the nurses that I will not see this doctor. One nurse went so far as to escort me to the lobby when she noticed he was standing in the hall. There’s no chance he’ll get to insult me again!

Oh, dear Lord. I don’t even know what to say. I do not understand how anyone with a heart could be so callous and hurtful. Sometimes I read things here that just make me think the person really didn’t think before speaking but sometimes it comes across as the person being deliberately hurtful. That’s how this one came across to me. This doctor sounds like he was trying to hurt the Mom.
Jennifer, I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am. You didn’t fail at your job and I really hope that you know that! You did exactly what you needed to do to get your son here safely. I am just so sorry you had to have such a horrible experience in the process.
