OB: “Hi, I’m Dr. Brown. I’ll be performing your surgery.”

Mother(in tears and between contractions): “It’s nice to meet you, doctor. The nurses tell me you’re very good at your job.”

OB: “Well, I’m better at my job than you are at yours. Your job was to push out the baby.”

Conversation before an unplanned cesarean between a mother and the surgeon.

  1. What the hell is wrong with some people?

  2. Here dickhead, I’ll fix it for you:
“I’ll do the best I can to take care of you, and I’m sorry your birth isn’t going the way you planned. Are there any questions I can answer for you?”
Now was that really so hard?

    • LOL All I keep imagining now is Dr Dickhead in need of a “circumcision” to remove the stupidity that has seemed to have grown around his inflamed, egotistical, and un-compassionate head!

  3. Wow. No words for this

  4. Wow… I hope her husband (or SO, or labor support) showed him to the door. This kind of statement is innexcusable.

  5. My jaw just dropped. I can not imagine the audacity of this OB. What a horrible and demeaning thing to say to a woman at the most vulnerable moment of her life.

OP I am so sorry. I know how hard an unplanned C-section is and how long it takes to get past it and make peace with it.

  6. The very first thing that came to mind was “I would have slapped that rude, arrogant, butthole!!!”

  7. This is not only unbelievably rude (where do they get the idea that this is remotely acceptable?), it’s also not that reassuring. His standard is just getting the job done?

  8. Wow. Way to proof what an ass you are (and where you got your head stuck) while someone in distress is actually saying something nice about you.

    • That’s what struck me… This comment was prompted by a compliment? I can’t imagine what comes out of this doctor’s mouth when he’s questioned!

  9. Wow! This one made me so angry I just do not have words!

OP I am so sorry you were spoken to this way :(

  10. Wow, there are no words. What a horrible thing to hear from someone whose job is to provide care.

  11. What the farking fark!?!?

  12. Apparently, the nurses were wrong. You suck at your job.

  13. I am thinking about becoming a doula and I am pretty sure this would have caused me to lose my job. I would have punched this guy.

  14. May I introduce you to my husband the attorney?

  15. Oh HEEEEELLLLL NO! I’m so sorry, OP. They deserve a complaint filed!

  16. I don’t even know what to say. I want to put my foot where the sun don’t shine.

  17. OP, he was totally wrong – your job was to take care of your baby even if it was hard for you, and you did. So you were perfect at your job.
He, on the other hand, sucked at his.

  18. Unbelievable. Like I literally would not believe half the things posted here if I hadn’t actually experienced OB’s and midwives too for that matter saying some of the dumbest things. PP Being a doula IS hard, but its comments like this that make our job so important!

  19. This one is mine. You’ll all be happy to know my husband did speak up to defend me. Unfortunately, we pretty much had no choice but to allow him to do my surgery, as our son was experiencing a significant difficulties.

Since this happened, I’ve been in to the doctors’ office several times. I’ve shared with the nurses that I will not see this doctor. One nurse went so far as to escort me to the lobby when she noticed he was standing in the hall. There’s no chance he’ll get to insult me again!

    • Wow. Based on the staff’s reaction, you’re not the only one who’s had experiences with this doctor. :-(

At some point you may want to let the practice manager know what the doctor said, in writing. I’m so sorry you were treated this way. :-(

    • I’m so sorry he treated you this way. There’s no excuse for it. And I’m glad that nurse took the time to listen to your concerns and protect you from his jerkiness!

  20. Maybe a good surgeon, but a completely sh!tty person.

    Sigh. So sorry OP.

  21. Oh, dear Lord. I don’t even know what to say. I do not understand how anyone with a heart could be so callous and hurtful. Sometimes I read things here that just make me think the person really didn’t think before speaking but sometimes it comes across as the person being deliberately hurtful. That’s how this one came across to me. This doctor sounds like he was trying to hurt the Mom.

Jennifer, I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am. You didn’t fail at your job and I really hope that you know that! You did exactly what you needed to do to get your son here safely. I am just so sorry you had to have such a horrible experience in the process.

  22. What an asshole. I’m so sorry, OP.
