Thoughtful Thursday! “I Can See You’ve Done Your Research…”
“I personally wouldn’t choose a VBAC. But I can see you’ve done your research and are happy with that, of course I’ll write you a referral to the VBAC friendly hospital you choose.” – General Practitioner on request for referral to specific hospital.
As much as I would like to agree with care providers on everything it’s just not going to happen….while it is unfortunate that the doctor did not agree with the VBAC it is absolutely outstanding that he/she put on the the big boy/girl panties and handled it like a professional adult instead of a shaming bully or back stabbing brat. He/she also seems to have made the statement and dropped it so that mom could choose to inquire into the doctor’s view if she chooses. Again, not ideal but kudos on an outstanding example of how to agree to disagree! A LOT of “professionals” could learn from this.

Dislike these words.

While im not fond of the GP sharing her personal preference, at least she is doing her proper job, showing support, and respecting her right to informed consent
we need to see more doctors like this!

I think doctors are allowed to share some personal preferences. I don’t have a problem with a mechanic telling me “if it were my car I would…” What matters is what this doctor did, supporting and encouraging an educated mother in her decisions.
