“You Might As Well Continue With The Induction – The Date & Time Are Already Booked.”
“You might as well continue with the induction – the date and time are already- booked.” – OB to mother who had a situation of low amniotic fluid that had improved.
With #1 I came in for my (unneeded) induction already in labor… and they gave me Pit anyway without even telling me. I had a highly paternal doc and didn’t know to ask questions back then… but heck if I was gonna ruin his oh-so-planned-out day by laboring at my own rate when his schedule said ‘induction’.

Inductions can be canceled, easily. I know because I had one scheduled for this past Wednesday which my doc and I decided was not ultimately the best course of action. Ended up in labor that day anyway (spontaneous) and was at the hospital triage about the same time my induction was scheduled. LOL!(And I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy later that day!)

What a jerk. Most women have this THING about inconveniencing people (we hate to do it) so he’s playing on that to get her to do what he wants… “It’s already booked” makes it sound like she’s cancelling an appointment at the last minute.

I have to say though, even when I was a scared first time mom who ended up with a very medicated birth later, I had the spine to tell a Dr where he could put the scheduled induction he had set up for me with out my permission. But I agree, they like to make it sound like they are doing SUCH a service for us and to refuse is paramount to spitting in their face and taking away their child’s birthday cake.

Man, I wish I knew you can wait 2 weeks past. My doctor gave me the speech of “you are 1 day late, it is dangerous we are booking you for induction” and I listened and all. She guilted me into the “I won’t be there when you need me” as if she is a miracle worker. Although I was happy she was there, I now know that I didn’t need to induce as I had hours of horrible labor due to induction. She was going on vacation and had two c-sections scheduled.
with my second I refused everything and besides I went into labor earlier than a due date.

With my last one, my OB seemed worried that I was 39 weeks 4 days and hadn’t gone into labor. “Well, let’s schedule an induction for 4 days from now”…… Or how about NOT doing that and I go into labor on my own? I ended up in labor at 5AM the next morning. LOL

Did anyone else notice the doctor said “continue with,” as if the act of booking an induction actually STARTS the induction? The implication is that at this point, in order to cancel the appointment, the mother would actually be stopping her own labor process.

Exactly! Like, “well, you made the appointment so the ball’s already rolling and we can’t stop it now…”

“Congratulations! It’s not your appendix, but you might as well continue with the removal – The date and time are already booked…”
WTH?

If you read the book Cheaper By The Dozen, they did remove the wrong child’s tonsils at one point because she was already anesthetized by the time the doctor realized the mistake, and the doctor says something along the lines of, “Well, they’d probably have had to come out eventually anyhow, and the waiting is the worst part, so…” Out they came.

You know what I picture when I hear things like this? I picture the inside of a womb, all decorated like a house. You know, there’s a rug, a lamp, maybe a pretty picture on the wall. And of course there’s a calendar and a clock. I mean, the baby must have a calendar and a clock so they know when they’re suppose to come, ain’t so?

Medical indication for induction: inconvenience of hospital admin staff of canceling the appointment, then making arrangements to find someone to fill the spot.
What’s worse, the patient’s chart would probably read: “fluid levels improved, but patient requested to proceed with induction.”
