Thoughtful Thursday! “Any Woman Who Wants To Attempt A VBAC Deserves A Chance.”
“Any woman who wants to attempt a VBAC deserves a chance.” – OB to mother during consultation.
My daughter was born via c-section after pushing for nearly three hours, due to presentation. When I was in labor, I was informed that she was sunny-side up and her head was tilted. My nurse kept reaching up to try to get her to straighten out and my OB kind of… didn’t do much. Sigh. I really didn’t know what else to do at the time. I agreed to the c-section because I was afraid that if I kept going at it, my baby would eventually be injured.
When I went for my post-partum checkups, the OB who took care of me (NOT the same one who did my c/s) told me that my pelvis was too narrow to consider a VBAC… ever.
Anyway, I moved to another state last year and when the OB I met with heard about my c-section, she visibly winced. When I mentioned that I’d like to go for a VBAC in the future, she said the above statement. I still don’t know if I’ll ever have another one but it’s wonderful knowing that I’ll have the support I need.
I was actually at the same clinic this morning and when I told my nurse about my quote being posted, she said, “Absolutely. Any woman who wants one deserves a chance.”

OP, FWIW, my daughter was born C/S for the same reason, posterior and head tilted. Reasons recorded were CPD, maternal exhaustion. Both my midwife and the OB who did the c/s told me I had a great chance of giving birth vaginally the next time. I had a VBAC almost 2 years later! Your new OB sounds amazing…very much like the midwife who delivered my VBAC baby at home

OB, I’m glad to hear it! Please tell me that you are going to say(and mean) exactly those words when some poor lady has been fobbed off by all the other OBs because she has an other than normal scar or multiple sections.
OP, glad that your new OB is willing to give you the option to VBAC is/when the time comes.

Dislike these words.

Yes, a real chance without a lot of hoops to jump through or time lines to meet or rude people to deal with!
