Thoughtful Thursday! “…Take What Time You Need And Let Me Know What You Decide.”
| “I don’t want you to feel like you’re being pressured to do anything you don’t want. Take what time you need and let me know what you decide.” – OB to mother while discussing options during her labor. |
This one made me bounce up and down with joy! One of the worst things in the world is when you are being pressured to make a big decision on the spot. It’s nice to know that there are doctors out there that give you the time and space you need to think things over.

This is mine, too.
!I was in L&D with SROM (*really* ruptured; I apparently don’t go in for slow leaks!) at 35 weeks. I was contracting, but really irregularly, so my OB suggested pitocin. When I expressed my doubts, she said the above. And true to her word, it wasn’t until the next cervical check 24 hours later showed I’d made it to one whole centimeter dilated that I suggested we try pitocin. I got put on a really low dose for about four hours, and then when it was obvious things were moving along, they turned it off and I did the rest of the birth with no further interventions.

That . . . that sounds like . . . it sounds like an appropriate and prudent use of pitocin, coupled with informed consent that involved actual information and was actually consentual.
Well, I’ll be darned. Will wonders never cease?

Dislike these words.

This is so different than my experience. My husband had to ask people to leave the room when they came and suggested a C-section. Except in an immediate emergency, you don’t just answer that in 5 seconds! I was so exhausted and needed to think about it without being stared at by the OB who’d be holding scalpel.
