“If You Leave Vernix On Your Baby…We See It Burns The Baby’s Skin.”
“If you leave vernix on your baby, nowadays, we see it burns the baby’s skin.” – L&D Nurse
Oh really…. I could of sworn the last time I checked it protects the babies skin and if I’m not mistaken it’s actually could for you to leave it on or rub it in the too the babies delicate, sensitive skin from getting to irritated and dry.

Who knew that vernix was made of pure Phosphorus! True they are both waxy and white but I would have never made the connection if you hadn’t told me it burst into flames when exposed to air!

See, now they’re just making s#!t up for no good reason…

I know you said something, but all I heard was stupid. Can you find me a nurse who speaks English?

No, don’t you see, the florencent lights in the hospital interact with the vernix creating a toxic substance, that’s why babies must immediately be whisked to uv heat lamps while they get the vernix scrubbed off before the baby can be safely returned to mom. This also explains why home and birth center babies, who are born into twinkle lights and candle light do just fine. But don’t you know, the hospital *needs* those florecent lights to give people the proper impression of aloft superiority. And, as a bonus, they give people migraines which the doctors can ‘fix’.

Here, let me fix it: “if you leave the vernix on your baby then we need to wear gloves any time we’re handling your baby, and gowns any time we hold him/her. This makes it inconvenient for us, so just let us wash your baby for our sake.”
Takes longer to say, but it’s still the truth. But considering the risk of nosocomial infection, getting hospital staff to gown and glove is safer for the baby anyway. So leave that vernix there and it’s a win-win for the baby!

With my first baby they put a special gold sticker on his bassinet tag to remind nurses not to touch him without gloves since we didn’t bathe him. With the next two (different hospital) there was no sticker and the nurses touched them without reservation. WOnder why that was?

Then why wasn’t he born with 3rd degree burns?
*Hangs head out into the hall* “Hello!? Someone missing a psych patient? Because I found her!”

And it didn’t burn the baby’s skin before modern medicine?

And of course, the amniotic fluid neutralizes it before the baby is born!
