Thoughtful Thursday! “…I Don’t Want You To Be Unsure Of Anything…”
“I want you to look through these list of questions and make sure that by the end of your pregnancy you have the answers to all of these. I don’t want you to be unsure of anything, and feel free to ask me more.” – OB to mother while going over a list of questions prenatally.
My cynical side wanted to think that this was made up because no way would an OB say that in real life….oh wait, my OB gave me a book put together that outlined fetal development, common pregnancy symptoms and suggestions for relief, and over 50 pages on the stages of labor, what to expect, suggestions for positions to try during both labor AND delivery.
Darn pregnancy brain!

This is mine. 7 years agoI was pregnant with twins, suffering from severe Hyperemisis, and had 101 questions. At my 1st visit, he handed me a paper with about 12 questions he wanted me to ask him over the course of my being under his care.
Often times I would come to see him and be in tears from being so sick and dehydrated. He sat with me and let me take as much time as I needed. He would always ask me how long I had to sit and wait for appointments, and apologize if I had to wait more than 20 minutes.
On one occasion he stood up for me when I was being treated poorly by a staff member, and when I had been given some wrong information by a Hospital staff member, he said to me “Don’t listen to a thing he says, you can have whatever you want when you are in labor, no one is going to make you do anything.”
Sadly, both my babies were breech and the only option I was given was a c-section – which was devastating, seeing as I was planning a natural, med free birth.
But I know now how blessed I was to have such a caring OB. I think he was as close to a Midwife as I would have ever had (in a Province where Midwifery was illegal at the time) His office walls were even covered with pictures of all the babies he had helped deliver…much like my Midwife’s office, when I had my son 2 years ago.
