This is mine. Sorry I can’t pink from my phone. The nursery nurses were trying to talk me into staying an extra day so my daughter could spend time under the bili lights. Our fabulous FP said that was unnecessary, her levels were high but nothing to worry about. He sent us home with these wonderful instructions and an appointment in 2 days. By then, her bili levels were normal.
This is the same FP who told me at 2 days postpartum that he had asked the nurses not to administer eye antibiotics or vitamin K because we did not have any risk factors, but if we wanted them he would go ahead and do both while he was there. At the time, I didn’t know anything about either one, so he sat down and explained them to me. He is absolutely amazing. You have to love a doctor who takes the “informed” part of informed consent seriously.

I love doctors who are okay with informed consent. Our FP does not agree with our choice to not vaccinate, but respects it because he knows why we do it. He also backed us up when declining circ and the eye goop and vit k shot. He too insisted that we be allowed to go home when our son had a slightly high bili count and that I simply nurse him as often as possible. he did tell me to wake the baby at least every 3 hours during the day if he didn’t wake up and want to nurse himself.

Aww, that is real nice and good to hear. It does help to feed as much as possible. My baby was jaundice when she was born and was under the blue light and that blanket for few days in the hospital. They brought her in to feed every time. When she wouldn’t latch on they brought in the pump so I could get the colostrum or the milk coming in to her. I feed her on demand ever since.
