“…You Sure Got A Lot Of Stretchmarks…”
“Wow, you sure got a lot of stretchmarks, didn’t you?” – Midwife to mother at 6 week postpartum visit.
Yes. And I got my BEAUTIFUL baby out of it. My stretch marks may or may not fade with time. Either way they are a part of ME and what makes ME unique and beautiful. Which is more than I can say about your ugly attitude, midwife.

I looked like a purple zebra with my first. My stretch marks were dark purple and they were EVERYWHERE. I was very self conscience about them. My family were the ones to make the rude comments, which is to be expected. If my midwife had said this I probably would have cried.

LOL at “purple zebra.” I call mine my “tiger stripes.” And right now they are still dark red/purple. But I expect they will fade to white like last time. I will NOT be showing off my belly before then, I promise.

My sister and I agreed that our bellies looked like the marbled bowling balls. The beauty is that, provided your tummy doesn’t get bigger in subsequent pregnancies, the stretch marks don’t get all noticeable again after they’ve faded.

I wish mine didn’t get any more noticable, my belly did eventually get to abou the same size but my stretchmarks were red, purple, itchy, very noticable from about 6 weeks pregnant.5 years postpartum and they are still red/purple, especially so if the weather is hot or sticky

You know, most women get stretch marks with pregnancy. In general it’s just rude to make comments like this (and obviously this *was* rude or it wouldn’t be here)
Have to say though, my skin is very fragile and I have horrible stretch marks from pregnancy, my skin actually split and bled in places and even where it didn’t, they look like burn scars, not standard stretch marks. Personally, i’d feel a bit vindicated if a doc said this to me, but again, my aren’t your standard stretch marks and they *look* painful (and are), so i’d take such a comment as sympathy. But there is a time and place for it and normal physical changes *isn’t* it!

“Yup but I also got a beautiful baby out of the deal! Wonderful trade off, ain’t so?”
You know, this one is just annoying because of the lack of common sense behind it. Common sense dictates that a majority of pregnant women are sensitive about certain physical/body changes. Goodness, a woman who isn’t pregnant is usually sensitive! So why go there? Why comment something like that and even run the risk of upsetting the Mom? I mean, it’s not like that statement has anything to do with anything, medical wise.

Those aren’t stretch marks…they’re battle scars you malevolent harpy.

Dear Medical Professionals:
If you have anything critical to say about a woman’s body, and it has medical significance… save it until after the physical exam when you’re both dressed and sitting across from each other.
If it doesn’t have medical significance, please do not comment on the defects you perceive in your patient’s appearance. Your job is not to be a body critic.
Love, Everybody

My OB also said something similar to this. I went in for my first appointment with my third pregnancy and she was extremely surprised to see all my stretchmarks. I thought she was weird since I know many moms that have gotten as many or more than me.

Seriously though. How insensitive!
Someone should show her this …
