Thoughtful Thursday! “…I’ve Only Cut One Episiotomy, And That Was At The Mother’s Request.”
“No problem! In the year that I’ve been delivering babies here, I’ve only cut one episiotomy, and that was at the mother’s request.”- OB to mother when the mother stated her desire to avoid an episiotomy.
…and this is the point at which I might have been asked to leave, because I would have KISSED THIS OB’S FACE. MWAH!
I agree!

Who is this OB and where do they deliver. I am willing to move.

My midwife was really against episiotomies too, in fact it’s not standard practice at all at the hospital I delivered at. It is my understanding, it’s not supposed to be standard practice anywhere anymore…I did end up having one, but she tried so hard to avoid it! But in the end, it was what kept me from having a c-section.

sometimes i think “not standard practice” means “the dr’s are trying really hard to not do it to every mom anymore” because even my really awesome OB warned me that not counting while pushing was new and all the old hat nurses and OBs keep forgetting to NOT do it anymore so i might have to ignore or remind anyone who did it.

My first OB was similar. When I asked him about them he told me that the last one he did was about 30 years ago in medical school and then went on to explain to me why tearing would be better. Sigh, miss him, especially compared to my military hospital birth with my 4th. (Wasn’t bad compared to some stories I have heard but it wasn’t great either.)

This is mine
. This was a military hospital in Japan! She was great and so supportive of my vbac and sat down with me for 30 minutes to go over my birth plan. Unfortunately, she wasn’t on call when I went into labor and I had a horrible ob! But that’s another story.
