Thoughtful Thursday! “…I Am Proud Of You And We Will Figure This Out.”
“Don’t worry, you were tough. I am proud of you and we will figure this out.” – OB to mother who experienced severe pain during the external version attempt to turn her breech baby.
He sad this because I was so embarrassed that I has screamed so loud durning this version. I have a really high pain tolerance but this was the worst thing I have ever been through. I love my OB, he is such a caring and wonderful person. I was 38 weeks along at this point and my baby had never been head down. I knew this was a long shot but I decided to have the version done anyway. After that we tried everything from chiropractors to ice packs to a blessing from a south African priest my husband worked with. Nothing worked. My ob never once pushed a C-section on me he gave me all the options, she was breech and stargazing. My husband and I after much thought and prayer decided it would be best to have a c-section as we did not want to risk spinal cord damage or anything else. It just so happened that my OB was scheduled to go out of town right when I was 40 weeks. He offered to do it at 39 weeks but we felt really strongly that we should wait until 40. I was already terrified to have a c-section and the thought of my own OB not being there scared me even more!! So my OB rescheduled his vacation because he knew how terrified I was and we had our 7 lb. 6 oz. beautiful daughter on a Saturday with MY OB when I was finally 40 weeks along. Love him and he will be there for my VBAC when we have another LO! DD is 6 months old now and perfectly healthy =)

He rescheduled his vacation? Wow! I don’t know where you live but I’m thinking a whole lot of pregnant women are going to want to move there!
Congratulations on the birth of you daughter!

Get that OB’s cell phone number just in case he switches hospitals. I would drive to the other side of the state for that kind of care.

Wow. So glad you posted this story. What a supportive ob — he went above and beyond, too by rescheduling his vacation.
I hope that the small but loud minority of “Ob’s & hospitals are all bad” folks will read this story and think on it.
I also hope that the people who think this site exists only to malign doctors will take notice, as well.

That kind of story is exactly the sort of thing I love to hear — a decision made with all the information given at the right time, and with the care and support of people who put their money where their mouth is when they say they want what’s best for mama AND baby. Fantastic!

This is one of those cases where the intonation of “My OB said WHAT?” completely changes. “Your OB said WHAT?!? That he’d RESCHEDULE his vacation? He said he was PROUD of you? He gave you ALL the options?” A round of applause for this stellar OB, who earned a spot on this site in the best possible way.

Wow, that is one awesome OB! Above and beyond and then some! Maybe you can send him a link to this page – he is one spectacular doctor, a credit to his profession, and a gift to pregnant women.
I’m am so happy that you were treated so well.

His name is Dr Kenneth Larsen at alta view hospital in Sandy Utah. He also chuckled at me when I asked if I was at higher risk for PC OR GD since I was pretty overweight when I got pregnant. He made me feel so much better about being pregnant and said he would not treat me any differently just because of my weight. the best part of all of this was we did not want to find out the baby’s sex….when he pulled our DD out he said ” dad! what is it!?” I will never forget that moment when MY hubby was able to tell me we had a daughter. it was magical.

Never had one done but I have participated in attempting one and they do often hurt! OP, I hope they got your baby turned and you went on to have a nice birth.
