“…We’ll Do You A Lovely Cesarean.”
“Well, when the time comes just come along down here and we’ll do you a lovely Cesarean.” – Anesthesiologist to mother, while in the OR for repair of significant tears post birth, referring to the mother’s next child.
Thanks to the clarification by the OP, it makes more sense and I’m much more disgusted now. Saying that they’ll do a “lovely” cesarean in front of someone who had tearing during her birth implies that the anesthesiologist thinks that her birth was less beautiful, or that tearing makes her birth uglier. >:(

A “lovely” caesarean? A caesarean section is major surgery, it results in scarring, it results in an extended recovery period, it represents an increased risk for both mother and child.
Sometimes it’s necessary, and there are millions of people walking around who couldn’t have been born any other way, so I am not knocking the procedure… but it’s an expedient of necessity, not a desirable outcome.
A caesarean is never “lovely”. What an inappropriate word. What an inappropriate attitude!

I understand the word “lovely.”
I had one aweful, painful and ugly section by a mean and aweful surgeon and one “lovely” section by a compassionate skilled surgeon leaving an almost invisable scar. After section #1, #2 was very lovely.

That makes me sad, Tami. Sometimes I wonder if some doctors (not just OB’s, but doctors in general) are not as careful as they should be with closing an incision and whatnot just because they don’t care for their patients as human beings. I’m sorry that you had such a bad experience the first time around.

Tee, it was very sad. That whole birth could take DAYS worth of posts here on mobsw, it was awful and I was treated like a second class citizen…and the topic of contention, THEY were wrong about (ruptured membranes,) and treated me like a liar and a dishonest person. They physical scars were nothing compared to the emotional.

It actually brings tears to my eyes just to think about. I’ve been treated like that with various doctors and it’s so hard to cope with. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if it happened with an OB. I’m really sorry.

Thanks for using my story! It was actually even worse than that. The remark was made to another medic who was showing off her engagement ring. The patient, a shy Sri Lankan lady, had had a straightforward labour but had been left bleeding for hours waiting for theatre to be available. She was completely ignored in this conversation.

That’s the worst part of it all to me. I hate when people in the medical field talk around the patient. No matter what part of the medical field it is and no matter who the patient is, the patient should ALWAYS be included in the conversation!

So does MOSW have the details wrong? cause the story says it was said to the mother, not in front of her.
If it is wrong, you’re right, your version is truly more heinous.
