“And What Does She Want Me To Do About That?”
Birth Photographer toL&D nurse in hallway: “She’s pushing.”
Nurse: “And what does she want me to do about that?”
Birth Photographer left the delivery room to inform hospital staff as no staff were in the room.
Not charge her for delivery if you miss it.

THIS! If you don’t show up for your JOB at most places you don’t get paid.

THIS. Anybody out there know of a case where a mother successfully challenged a hospital bill on these grounds?

No, but I do know my doc refunded part of his fee because he missed the birth. I completely understand him keeping part of it because he was there before and after the birth… but he did miss the ‘big event’ and returned about half the money.

The OB I had with my second child barely got there in time. She was washing her hands as my sons head popped out, and had to trun and catch him without even being gloved. After the birth, she came into the recovery room to tell me, ” I’m not charging you for any of this. I didn’t really do anything, so I just can’t justify sending you a bill.”

The birth photographer is the one being useful to Mama and baby while the nurses and OB are nowhere in sight. Impressive.

Oh wow, isn’t it lucky she was in the hospital where the highly trained medical professionals could all ignore her, and she could be exposed to resistant strains of highly infectious organisms, instead of at home with one-on-one care at all times and no germs but the ones her immune system was already accustomed to?
But really, in all seriousness what the actual Hell?
A woman should be able to choose the birth environment where she feels most comfortable, hospital, home, or birth center, without having to fight for her human rights, and without having to wonder whether or not someone will respond when she requests assistance!

Great. Now not only does the mother not have staff available to catch her baby, but the photographer she hired can’t do her job either because she’s had to stop taking pictures to find someone competent to tend to the birth. I would be beyond livid if I paid for a photographer and she missed taking shots of thosr precious first moments because some lazy nurse wouldn’t bother doing her job.

(OK, I’ve said this before on this site and have to say it again).
It’s a good thing that this woman didn’t have a home birth. Even during normal, healthy births, sudden emergencies can arise. So it’s fortunate that she was in a hospital with immediate access to fancy technology and the skilled expertise of an obstetrician who…. Oh, wait…

Mom had labored at home and we had arrived about 15 minutes prior to this comment. All I could think was, I’ve read stuff like this on “MOBSW?” People really say stuff like this?!
I had to go back into the hallway to tell the nurse that the bag of waters broke and the baby’s head was out. Then the oncall doctor came running in with the nurse.
Mom had a doula with her and delivered before the midwife arrived!
overall amazing birth! especially since i got to see my niece being born!

“Well, maybe we should transport her to a medical facility where she can deliver her baby with trained staff in attendance? Since we don’t seem to be in one right now…”

I was looking forward to your usual spiel about how first they try to scare mamas away from homebirth because “it’s so much safer in the hospital with trained staff in attendance,” then they turn around and pull this
