“Would You Really Put Your Baby’s Health At Risk Just Because You Don’t Have The Perfect Doctor?”
“Would you really put your baby’s health at risk just because you don’t have the perfect doctor?” – Certified Nurse Midwife to mother who wanted to know if she could request a different physician if the doctor was not adequately addressing her concerns.
I’m sorry, but unless mom’s concerns include the lack of twinkle lights in the L&D ward, she SHOULD transfer if the doctor isn’t listening to her.

Once again, mothers being mocked because they want the “experience”.
Not having the perfect doctor is what is putting my baby at risk, so I am asking you to HELP me get a good doctor to keep my baby safe. And you turn it around to make ME look selfish? Blame the mom. It works too often not to try it as the first tactic.

She went on to say that, if we needed a c-section, the doctor was only there to do the surgery and all we cared about is whether he was a competent surgeon. This is after I told her I was diagnosed after PTSD with my previous c-section and wanted to do what I could to make sure that my emotional needs would be respected, so that I could be ok with any birth outcome. Needless to say, we are now doing an HBAC.

Good for you! Incidentally, if you can find a hypnotherapist in your area who’s familiar with birth trauma, a few sessions of fear release work might do you wonders in terms of getting the birth you want this time around. Best wishes for you and your baby!

Yikes. So she was saying that to her, the doctor is nothing but a glorified butcher? **scary**
Good luck with your HBAC! May you have a peaceful and healing birth.

My last birth ended up in surgery (necessary, and thankfully not TOO traumatic). Having a doctor there who respected me, and who treated me with kindness made a BIG difference to me. Besides which, he was checking in with me after the birth too, it’s not like he stitched me up and then ditched me. Yes, when having care with a competent midwife, the involvement of a doctor is likely going to be for surgery. Getting to know the doctor and trust him/her can be a huge help in the unlikely event surgery becomes necessary.
I’m glad you found out this “med-wife” wasn’t on the same page in time to transfer care.

“While that’s a lovely question you asked me, the question I asked is what I should do if the *doctor* is the one putting my baby’s health at risk. Let’s answer my question first, and then I’ll answer yours.”
