Thoughtful Thursday! “…We Are Going To Do Everything We Can To Help You Have That Vaginal Birth…”
“Sounds like you had 2 unpleasant births, and even a cesarean section that wasn’t needed. We are going to do everything we can to help you have that vaginal birth you desire and Iknow you can do it!” – Midwife to mother at a prenatal.
Okay, I feel like a Scrooge for saying this, but… I tend to feel like this is the type of statement I expect from a midwife and not something awesome to read on Thoughtful Thursday. I definitely am glad the OP felt so empowered by her words, but this would seem more notable if it was spoken by an OB.

Think of it like this though: comments are submitted for bad and good OBs, as well as good and bad midwives. We’ve had some doozies from midwives on this site, so we can honor nice comments from midwives, regardless of our “expectations” of what they should be like.

I went to meet my midwives and this was what they told me at my consult visit. Im sorry “Normal” if this did fulfill your requirements of thoughtful thursday but it really made me feel alot better about natural birth. Especially since I had a midwife with my first awful birth.
This birth resulted in an emergecy csection i am still recovering from emotionally. And i can honestly say that the surgery is the 1 thing i dont regret. Babies heart rate crashed into the 50′s and 60′s twice and didn’t recover for 5 minutes the first time. I was only 2cm dilated and was contracting every 2 minutes already. There was very THICK goopy egg yolk consistency meconium present and to this day we dont know what happened. The midwives were so respectful. helpful. came back into the OR and held my hand while they did the awful prep before putting me under general anesthesia. She stayed with my husband and doula. she came in and talked to me alot in recovery. She came back the next day to check on me. and has sense seen me many times just to talk about what happened. It is a birth that will stay with us all for the rest of our lives. I think she should be recognized for it and not ignored since “This is what a midwife should say”.

Oh yeah! I assume this one didn’t do a Jekyl and Hyde later or this wouldn’t be here.
