“…If Anyone Was Ever A Candidate For Plastic Surgery, You Certainly Would Be!”
“Well, if anyone was ever a candidate for plastic surgery, you certainly would be!” – Gyn during abdominal palpation of woman in for a well care appointment.
Omg in what universe is this ok??? Seriously?

That’s it, hands off. If I wanted an opinion on plastic surgery, I’d be seeing a plastic surgeon.
I so hope this was reported.

You’d think doctors would be more careful about not making unsolicited medical recommendations in areas that weren’t their specialty. My kids’ pediatrician wouldn’t even look in my throat to see if I had strep after three of four kids were diagnosed with it.

This was by a WOMAN gyn, no less. At the time, I’d had 3 kids, so of course my belly didn’t look like it did when I was in my teens… it’s not supposed to! For the record, I probably AM a good candidate for plastic surgery, since my first baby was 9#7oz on a teeny tiny frame that had to gain weight to get pregnant. (Let that be a note to all petite women- small women CAN have big babies vaginally!) After a pregnancy like that- when I couldn’t keep my hands linked and get them around my belly at my biggest- skin has a new “normal.” But the comment that she made was unsolicited, and already added to my low self-esteem about my body image.
I am happy to say, I never went back to her (and should have reported her, something I didn’t think of at the time), have had midwifery care ever since, and another baby (for a total of 4). I no longer think I need plastic surgery to look and feel good about myself. (Not that I judge anyone that chooses that route… just that I’m finally okay with my tiny frame even WITH a saggy belly!) Motherhood is a gift, and I bear the “battle wounds” of carrying 4 beautiful children without guilt now! ![]()
I wonder if her lack of connection, common courtesy and manners, and professionalism in that single comment (although there were more) played a part in me becoming a doula, and providing those emotional needs for laboring women? Hmmmm… there might be a connection there, now that I think about it!

Meaning what? I’m ugly? Deformed? Gullible? Have an excess of money from which I must be relieved? Seriously, just what are you implying here?
I’m going to assume the woman to whom this was directed had not asked for an opinion on her cosmetic surgery candidacy.
