“Let’s Talk Turkey…!”
“Let’s talk turkey! One of your twins is slightly bigger than the other and you might end up with a cesarean section.”
….. I.. I thought we were going to talk about turkey…

*pats Heather on hand* Now, you KNOW they can’t just use plain English in situations relevant to our health and wellbeing! Oh, no! Cheesy, poorly thought out metaphors are the only way to get through our thick, comparatively uneducated skulls! Why, we’re practically like animals!

Ok, SLIGHTLY bigger is no big deal, they are individuals that develop at different rates. A large difference is what would be worrying since there is a chance of twin to twin transfusion or IUGR. Not sure that either of those things in and of itself warrants a jump to c-section. Sigh.

This one seems fairly benign considering what the phrase “Let’s talk turkey” means (http://ask.yahoo.com/20061122.html). Although what turkey the doctor wants to talk seems kind of wonky. I don’t see how one twin being bigger than the other would lead to a c-section… If anything the twins need to be left in there long enough for both babes to get big enough to survive outside the womb… But what do I know…

Turkey?
Really?
I thought I was having twin babies, not twin birds.
And with twins, don’t you usually have one twin a little bigger? If this is normal, then what is the deal?
Trying to pressure the mom into a section because you aren’t comfortable with a vaginal delivery of twins Doc?

More and more I am grateful for my dr who had no problem with my twin vba2c. She said the only time she would suggest a c/s is if baby A was breech or if baby B was breech and *significantly* bigger than A, otherwise a vaginal birth would be no problem. A small weight difference is not a reason for a c/s, especially considering it might not even be right. My whole pregnancy B measured bigger than A and when they were born A was 8oz bigger.
And now I’m really hungry for turkey…

I just wanted to follow up by saying I refused the c-section offers and had a very uncomplicated vaginal twin delivery. Baby B was a pound bigger but presented no problem at all. This OB prefers to do a c-section but I flat out refused unless there was a complication during the actual delivery. There were none. Happy I stuck to my guns. No turkey for me:)

Translation: I have every intention of cutting you open and I really hope if I say might you’ll think I’m simply making you aware of every possible outcome so you won’t be surprised when I have you moved to the OR. OP, good for you for standing your ground.
