“Most Labors Don’t Progress Unless Augmented By Doctors…”
“Most labors don’t progress unless augmented by doctors. That’s why cesarean section rates are coming down.” -OB explaining why the OB wanted to break the mother’s bag of water.
Hmmm, my labors did stall, but there’s this awesome thing call patience that allowed me to progress and have my babies without pitocin, AROM, or any other unnecessary interventions. Maybe you should invest in some of that instead of trying to make your patients believe you’re saving them from Cesareans by intervening in their perfectly normal labors.

yeh, because for so many years, since beginning of the world, and man existence, women couldn’t go into labor with out the doctor, so no one was ever born and they all remained pregnant till about last century.

And people actually believe this crap? Tell me, did one of the wise men bring Mary pitocin?

Wow, this is wrong all over the place.
C-section rates are still trending upwards (CDC data).
Most labors progress just fine without augmentation.
Moreover, augmentation may cause more harm than benefit if all is going well otherwise (i.e. cascade of interventions).
Triple fail, doc.

I’m pretty sure that my natural childbirth friends actually gave birth to their kids, but they could have just gone to the Free Baby Store and picked ones that looked just like them. (And if they DIDN’T give birth since they had no interference, I have GOT to find out what diet they went on…)

WHOA! I just realized something!
–> “Most labors don’t progress unless augmented by doctors.”
Does this mean the doctor **stays with the laboring mom** the whole time? Does this doctor really do this? Because if the doctor isn’t going to be there, s/he would have said “unless augmented by nurses who are working on the orders the hospital staff developed and which every doctor individually signed off on.”
Otherwise, this would be the world’s lamest attempt to justify the profession of doctoring. It must be threatening to hear about all these women who give birth with midwives or on their own or assisted by a cab driver or a police officer. :-b So instead we just manufacture a need and then step in to fill it.

You know what’s really ironic to me about such statements? Most of these doctors are likely evolutionists who would scoff at a Biblical creationist who told them the earth was ‘only’ apx 6000 years old…yet they practice medicine with the (apparent) firm belief that humans sprang into existance at the same time as modern obstetric medicine about 60-70 years ago.

Yup. Most of labors never ever ever progress without Pit. This explains why prior to the invention of Pitocin to augment labor, only two people had been born: Adam and Eve. And they weren’t really even technically *born,* so I guess we always need Pit, right? (Building on Jespren’s snark…;-))

Funny, my only augmented labor ended up as a c-section. The ones before and after it were all natural and progressed just fine. I know my story isn’t unusual, there are lots of women who end up with c-sections because of doctors ‘helping things along’.

Unfortunately, many doctors aren’t aware of the Natural Alignment Plateau (http://naturalchildbirthedu.com/2009/12/23/the-natural-alignment-plateau/), so they call it “stalling”. Since this is obviously a “problem” that needs to be “fixed”, the “fix” it. Not to mention, of course, that MOST labors *do* take place in the hospital. We also know that the augmentation often leads to a c-section, and that the section rates are going up. So, let’s fix this doctor’s statement: “Most labors don’t progress the way we think they should unless augmented by doctors. Even then, it doesn’t always work and that’s why c-section rates are going up.” There. It’s ugly, but more accurate.

Yeah. Because NO babies were born before they invented pitocin.
Do I hear your vacation calling? Kid’s ball game? Dinner party? You late for something?
No, then wait for my baby to be ready.
Yes? I DON’T CARE. It takes as long as it takes.

Yeah what utter rubbish, so without a doctor there and machines that go ping we would all remain pregnant forever?
