I was the L&D nurse for this birth. This firsttime mom had had a long, protracted active phase and the previous two doctors as well as the previous RN had been talking c/section all day. But both the mom and I had been advocating for more time. She ultimately pushed just 30 minutes, delivered direct OP, 8 lbs 3 oz. The delivery doc was surprised she did it, and so quickly, and I was so pleased to hear him compliment her body afterwords! (some might find it a weird thing to say, but I thought it was great coming from an OB!) What a vote of confidence to end with, after everybody doubting her all day.

I love stuff like this. One of the nicest things my midwife ever said to me was “You could drive a mack truck through there” referring to my pelvis. We had a scary end to the pushing phase (at home) and she had to get all hands on/in for my big headed asynclitic boy–so she’d know! What a confidence boost for the next birth it is to hear something like that

My midwife said something similar to me. She said “Look, you have plenty of room to have a ten pound baby.” My first reaction was “I better not!” My second reaction was “It must be like throwing a banana down the Lincoln tunnel for my poor husband.” LOL

My mid had to get all hands on/in for my bub too. She was OP, asynclitic and had sticky shoulders. It all got a bit hairy but afterwards my mid commented that it was made a whole lot easier to handle due to my pelvis size/shape
