Thoughtful Thursday! “Wow, You’re Handling These Contractions Like A Pro!”
“Wow! You’re handling these contractions like a pro!” – L&D Nurse to mother during labor.
I’m so glad that they were good to you! You know the horror stories that come through here. It’s great to hear the other side too.

Holy cow! Head and foot at the same time . . . that’s a flexible daughter and a hard core mom right there. And a million points to your phenomenal birth team for being so supportive and encouraging! What a wonderful story.

Thanks everyone!
My daughter actually ended up having to do a lot of orthopedic therapy to get her knee to bed the right way and her hip to catch up in maturity. Another example of great doctors, but not in the OB. She was in a cast by her second day, and didnt get out of the hip harness until she was almost 1. (shes 2 now) Thanks to them though, my daughter can walk and play just like every other toddler.

Dislike these words.

This one is mine!
My whole experience was great, not just the nurses, but the doctors as well. (yes that is plural
) They didnt push for me to get an epidural and were very very encouraging the whole way. My left side was in a lot of pain, and we thought it was the monitors, so the nurse sat with me the whole time holding them away from my body when they werent needed, telling me how great I was doing the whole time.
So as the contractions get worse and worse, so does that pain in my side. I ended up asking for the epidural. (afterwards they said they could hear me down the hall! haha) Fast forward to pushing and they had to up the epidural so much to get rid of the pain I was having, that I couldnt feel the contractions at all, so they took it away just a little. The pain in my side was back with a vengeance, and it got to a point I felt like I couldnt do it.
So there I am saying I cant do it, and my doc looks at me and says, “Yes you can! Take a deep breath, and really work with your next contraction!” By the way, we are military, and you dont get to choose your OB, you get who is stationed there, and on call at the time. On top of that, we had just moved from California to Italy when I was just about 30 weeks! (delivered at 38) I had only met one of the doctors by the time I went into labor, and had no idea who the doc on call was. It just so happened though, that the doc I did know, and like, was working the ER that night. He came up and helped me through it all.
A couple of contractions later, my daughter was born! We found out when she came out, the pain in my left side, was her foot. Yup, I delivered her head and left foot at the same time! OUCH! If it wasnt for the help of the wonderful nurses and doctors I had, I dont think I would have been able to do it.
Sorry for the wall of text, I just had such a great experience, I felt like everyone should know!

What an awesome story! Thank you for sharing it. It’s so refreshing to hear about the good medical staff that is left in this world. Sadly, stories like this one are few and far between. I’m glad you had the support you needed to deliver your daughter!
