Thoughtful Thursday! “Good Thing Your Baby Was So Big…”
Good thing your baby was so big, otherwise I might have missed him! – Certified Nurse Midwife to mother having a home birth. The midwife barely made it in time to catch the baby.
Okay if the OP liked it that is fine. I’ve also heard (probably here) that bigger babies make better battering rams (cause dialation to happen faster) So what she said might not be true, but if it makes you feel good that is fine. I suspect it had more to do with the smile on her face than the words anyway.

As a big baby-bearer with long labors, I only WISH that were true! LOL!
This submission was cute!

How I read what she said was that basically if the baby was any smaller with such a fast labour she wouldn’t have seen him. Pretty cute

Lol! I just had a 10lber at home with 6 hours of labor and 2 pushes! We actually called the midwife too late because I didn’t realize how fast things were actually going after having had 2 long labors with my other big babies. So big babies don’t always mean long labors.

I didn’t read it so much as a “long labor” comment (indeed, it sounds like the labor may have been quite short, maybe even precipitous!), but more as a joke like “I got there when the second half of this big’un was coming out.”
I could be totally off-base, though.

This one is me! Indeed, this was a precipitous labor and I had the baby less than 1 hour and 45 minutes after labor started. The midwife arrived less than 20 minutes after we called her, and I had the baby about 15 minutes later. My son was 9 lbs.
To address what “Details” said, I don’t think my big baby caused the fast labor. My first son was only barely smaller (8lb 13oz) and had a 36 hour labor. I think the difference was second baby PLUS better positioning. The first baby was malpositioned for a very, very long time before rotating (finally) during the pushing stage out of the OP position. The second labor was an absolutely perfect position, the whole time, and I could physically feel the difference- it was amazing.
