“I Have This On My Caseload Today?…”
“I have this on my caseload today? I have to be back at the office by 3:00.” – OB to nurse upon entering the laboring mother’s room.
GASP an OB has a women giving birth on their caseload – who would have effin guessed.

I was too in shock to say anything. Within minutes she had performed a cervical check, broken my waters without consent and left the room. I had to ask the nurse who this woman was who after she left. I also believe that she was at least partly to blame for me hemorrhaging (she pulled the cord to deliver the placenta immediately). After my daughter’s birth I was told by my mom that the doctor and nurse had been chatting about their own personal lives while I was pushing, and the doctor was flirting with my mom.

Ugh! Clearly a doctor with a bad case of burnout and had long since stopped viewing laboring moms as human beings.
I’m sorry you got treated so badly.

How horrible! I disagree with the burn out though. This was a female OB. This is a woman who doesn’t know how to say NO. What? She can’t call the office and tell them to move those appointments or get another doctor in to cover for her at one place or the other? She absolutely has to be all things to all people and cover everything herself. Definate female trait made worse by being in a man’s profession and having to give 110% to be considered equal to the good old boys. My very first guess upon reading this was “Junior female in the group practise trying to prove herself.”
