“Thoughtful Thursday! “I’m Sorry I Couldn’t Get The Baby To Turn…”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t get the baby to turn, you tolerated that so well, I kept trying long after I would have given up for other people.” – OB to mother after an unsuccessful external version at 38 weeks.
My dr told me it has a 35% success rate….he tried his hardest and even had another ob try….it hurt more than anything ive ever been through….its horrific but worth it if it works….it did not work for me and my baby never flipped….2 months old now and she is still very stubborn!!….={

This was me. My normal doctor found baby was breech at 37 weeks with my end of pregnancy appoitment with him (midwife care for most of the pregnancy, but have to have an appointment with the doctor at 20 weeks and 36ish weeks) and at 38 weeks after I went to my appointment armed with information sent me to the bigger hospital to try an ECV. I had to leave home around 5:30am to get there for 7am and after checking in a midwife came and ran some obs and gave me my shot of terbutuline. The doctor came in and also a trainee doctor who had not been involved in an ECV before and wanted to learn. The doctor tried really hard and I would have to say it is one of the most painful things ever. After not getting baby to turn initially the doctor said he could stop now or continue and I asked for him to try again as I really didn’t want a c section. He tired again and I could see the effort he was putting in, and after he couldn’t get bub to turn again he made the above comment. He spoke about scheduling a c section but I explained this wasn’t my normal hospital and I would discuss it at my next appointment. On returning to my normal hospital I advised I would not be scheduling a c section and wanted to give baby every chance to turn. I commenced a very full on program of spinning babies, chiropractic care, bowen therapy and basically any other possible ideas on how to turn a breech baby. I went into labour on my own at 39weeks 5 days but unfortunatly baby still hadn’t turned. My local hospital will not even attempt vaginal breech births because they are considered too high risk (small town hospital) but they gave me the option to go to the larger hospital where the ECV was attempted. Unfortunatly I was in labour with a family history of short labours, my husband doesn’t drive and that hospital was an hour and a half away and I did not think it wise or safe to attempt driving myself that far in labour so a c section it was. My son is now 11months old and still just as stubborn.

Isn’t it nice to be treated with respect! What is the success rate on that technique? I’ve heard it hurts like dickens. By any chance did baby flip the next day/week? I hope things went well for you OP.
