“…I Don’t Do Boobs.”
“I hope you know how to breastfeed because I don’t do boobs.” – L&D nurse to mother as she was pushing.
“Are you taking part in a randomized control trial where L&D nurses attempt to manage pain during delivery by saying things so incomprehensible that the mom forgets to feel the ring-of-fire sensation?”

Jane.. I like that…. I can just imagine thie scene and the mothers look of “WHAT?!??!?!!?????” but hey Nurse… STFU!!!!

when I read the heading I thought it was something a plastic surgeon might say to a 13 yr old (if they had any morals/ethics) but really …… Nursie Poo, if you don’t do boobies make good friends with the LC and refer all your patients to her, without them needed to know you can only do half your job. Cheers.

When I read the heading, I thought it was going to be the OB or nurse saying something in regards to nipple stimulation, which I could understand the comment. But the fact it wad an L&D nurse talking lactation duties… Totally classless.

I asked a L&D nurse what their credentials were as far as lactation support and her reply (after a chuckle) was “we don’t have anyone certified in lactation consultation… We’re not around the moms long enough to need to know about it.” Yeah, because things like nursing within the first hour, promoting skin to skin contact and nursing on demand (especially in the initial 24 to 48 hours) don’t matter…

To be fair that is all the job of the nursey nurses who should be in the room at delivery, but not necessarily before. You have to remember that the OB cuts the cord so fast so the baby is no longer his responsiblity. Same thing for the nurses. L&D and Nusery are two different departments.

For the record, she was a really, really good L&D nurse and in the end caught my baby. She was good at what she did. I just felt the statement was a) poorly timed and b) anti-breastfeeding. I felt she could have waited until a more appropriate time and then ASKED if I needed help and then gotten help for me if needed. Her opinion on “boobs” wasn’t really necessary to any part of the process!

WTF? I’m still shaking my head. If you don’t do boobs, you’re in the wrong profession. Furthermore, why in the hell would you say that to a woman while she is PUSHING?
