“No, I Want You In Pain.”
“No, I want you in pain.” – OB to mother after the OB asked for the pitocin to be turned up, during an induction.
and…….oops! did that doctor mean to actually speak the TRUTH? out loud?

My ob basically told me that since I asked not to be offered pain meds (but keep the option open, just in case), that even if I asked I wouldn’t get them….I guess as a punishment.

When a coping technique that a nurse suggested made it hurt more, she told me that was the point, and the more it hurt, the better.
After she left the room I threw a pillow her way and sent my husband to get a new nurse, which he did.
Saying “there’s a purpose to this pain, it means you’re going to see your baby soon” is encouraging (IMO), but “I want to see you hurt” is just cruel and frightening.

not mine but could have been said to me …. as someone who does not feel any pain for contractions (on PIT no less) until transition… my midwife did not even really think I was in labour until after 2 days we finally went to a hospital to try to finally have the baby… she was shocked that I was at 5cm….

This one is mine.
I was being induced (obviously, lol) and decided this time around I was going to do it without pain meds. Well, I was in quite a bit of pain and tolerating it barely by vocalizing (read- nearly screaming), sqatting and using the exercise ball.
My OB came in to check on me during her lunch hour (how convenient) and told the nurse to turn the Pit up… I asked her not to, since the baby was doing fine and my bloodpressure was fine, and she layed this one on me… I told her I WAS in pain, and she told me “No, I want you in even more pain”…
I told her she was sadistic (and my husband told me I growled at her but that was probably just a contraction)
Pit was turned up regardless and I went from 5cm to holding my baby in 15 minutes… it took 12 minutes to get from 5 to 8, when they checked me at 8 it was because I told them I was in transition… Doc goes, “well, you are only at 8, but you can bear down if you want to” I got up on the table and started bearing down… she looks over and goes, “Oh My, theres a head” three minutes later, my darling daughter was in my arms. Just to be whisked off to the warming station with low apgars due to being born so quickly…

Well gee, had she meant to get that baby out before the end of lunch? That sounds scary and down right dangerous for you daughter! I’m glad you are both okay. I wish the pit had worked half that well with my first. OTOH wouldn’t it be nice if they all just left us the heck alone!

It was so scary. She was barely breathing and had all kinds of gunk in her airway because she wasnt “wrung out” (pediatricians words.) She wasnt reacting at all like a healthy newborn and it took them what felt like forever to get her breathing right. And she whistled while she breathed for the first two months of her life… She ended up with RSV at 6 weeks and I am certain that it was a result of her problems at birth.
A revalation for me is that the pediatrician said that my daughter reacted exactly like most of the c-section births she sees, and that she rarely sees a vaginal born baby have those issues. And they were pressuring me to have a c-section with my oldest child and they dont do vbacs in my little secluded town… Thank goodness I said no way!

This sounds like the OB I went to for an Essure consult… “Well, we want you to bleed for two weeks.” when I explained that hormonal BC messes with my system and made my period last for two weeks instead of my normal 4 days. I told her I wouldn’t take the pills. She said, “You will if you want the Essure done.” Needless to say, I didn’t get it done and I’m pregnant with #4. Yay!
OP, your OB was sadistic and I’m glad you growled at her.

WTH? Is the idea that if the mom isn’t feeling pain then there’s no dilation going on?
Between this guy and the guy who said he liked to cut people up, I’m beginning to sense a theme.
