“…Your Cervix Is Looking Old.”
“We should induce next week because your cervix is looking old.” – OB to mother.
I wonder if the doc was saying ‘old’ as in ‘boring’. Like, ‘this topic is getting old.’
So, I want to induce because I’m tired of looking at your cervix??
It’s no better – if cervices are boring to you after 9 months, why are you still a doctor?!

This is a new one. So let me get this straight. Our babies have an expiration date, our placentas have an expiration date, and now our cervix starts to get old too? Okay, so what do you do with it after the baby is born? I mean, I’m on my 5th pregnancy. I guess my cervix is decrepit.
Hey doc, how about you come up with a more creative lie to get mom to bend to your will…

Does this doctor believe women form a new cervix with every pregnancy, like how we grow a new placenta?

But of course! However, the vagina will require some minor surgery to stitch it up all tight and new and young again, if the mother did not wind up with a perineum-saving c-section, and for an extra fee, the doctor will happily create a new hymen out of a pig’s bladder and sew it in when he does the “husband stitch” post-episiotomy. Rejuvenation!

Am wondering if mom misheard. This happens because I had a doctor “tell” a mom that he couldn’t find something that anyone could have found. When he was asked about this, he said that his statement was he couldn’t find her cervix, as it had been pointed very toward the back. He ended by saying “If you don’t believe everything my patients tell me about you, I won’t believe everything they tell me about you.”
That said, if cervixes get old, mine is dead, as I am not young by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve NEVER heard that statement before.

I’ve heard that as applied to children in regard to teachers. If you don’t believe everything your child says about his teacher then the teacher won’t beleive every story the child tells about home. But children are not grown-ups and are considered less reliable. I seriously doubt a grown woman misheard old. I can see the doctor meaning ripe and saying old. But heck if she is ripe or almost ready to go, she should go on her own when she is fully ready to go.

My cervix looks “old.” How charming. Your respect is looking nonexistent.

You mean “ready”? Then we don’t need to induce then, do we?
