“What Are You? A Vagina Model?”
Is that an attempt at a compliment??

“Actually, doctor, the vagina is the tube leading from the vulva to the uterus, and therefore it’s not normally seen. I believe the proper anatomical term for what’s visible is the ‘vulva.’”

I would like to know the context of this. If the doctor is trying to compliment her while doing a vaginal exam, that’s creepy. But I suspect it’s that the woman said, “I’d prefer not to have an episiotomy” and the doctor responded with this, as if the only reason we wouldn’t want him or her to snip our genitals with a scissors is because we want to look good in pictures. :-b

That was more my thought, too — a lot like the OBs who say to VBAC moms, “Oh, don’t worry, if you have another c-section we’ll go in through the same scar.” As though all we care about is whether we’ll have two battle scars instead of one.

Yeah, I just expected that to follow–the bit about the episiotomy.

So if we don’t want an episiotomy it couldn’t possibly be because we like to be able to sit comfortably while nursing or walk comfortably. It must be because of cosmetic reasons. And it doesn’t matter a wit if we have pain during intercourse as long as we are tight for our partners’ benefits. And if we don’t want a c-section that must be for vain reasons. That couldn’t possibly be because taking care of a newborn is a 24/7 job, and recovering from major surgery makes that more complicated. As long as the baby is healthy it doesn’t matter if the mother is a physical wreck from having been sliced and diced in whatever direction. Thanks for the compassion.
