well on the upside, she constantly “checking” her throught pregnancy, but yeah, there’s a time and a place for that comment…..or not, I’m pretty sure mama was aware she had them

Note to self, remind medical professionals to think about what they say instead of blurting out the first thing that pops in their heads…

Rephrasing something may prove to be a better choice.

I got SO sick of the comments about my hemorrhoid from the postpartum people after my VBAC. I’ve had it for years, it wasn’t new, it was just inflamed. I didn’t need to hear about it from every. single. nurse!

I know, this sounds a lot like the OB (with whom my home birth midwife consulted, at our 1 obligatory office visit) who said “whoa! those stretch marks!” when he was measuring my belly. You’d think someone who’d been in obstetrics for DECADES would have seen some stretch marks before!

When I was in hospital in labour with my 1st baby a midwife came in, looked at my stomach and really worriedly said “Oh god! Oh my god!!! Those STRETCHMARKS! Do they hurt? Do you need anything for them? I’ve NEVER seen them like this before!”

They were pretty raised and bright red, and yeah they hurt a bit but she kinda made me feel totally abnormal and I was really upset and worried over it.

They definitely need to learn some tact and respect.

I have had midwives concerned about my stretchies before too, but that was 5 years PP and I was not pregnant, the stretchmarks were still very red/purple/raised/itchy at times.
