This was mine! This conversation took place at my first prenatal appointment at 6 weeks. I delivered my first child in a highly medicalized setting where “policy” was to “hand the baby right over” after weighing, fingerprinting and swaddling, of course. I knew I wanted things different with my second, so I started seeing the only CNM in town who was known for her hands-off approach and incredible support for NCB. The care she gave me was amazing, and the birth experience was everything I could have wanted and more.

I wish more doctors and nurses realized that it’s not *their* baby or the hospital’s baby.
