Thoughtful Thursday! “No One Knows Your Body Better Than You Do…”
“No one knows your body better than you do, so it’s completely your call.” – OB to mother during labor, during discussion of benefits and risks of artificially breaking the bag of water.
WIN! =D I’m so happy you found such a good OB, OP =)

Yes, I want an OB that respects my choices and my ability to make decisions after I’ve learned the options. But, why on earth would I want an OB that understands less than I do about birth? I mean, honestly, I hope they have more experience and knowledge than I do.

Of course, a doctor is going to know a great deal about dealing with problems in birth and have plenty of experience in that area. However, you are the only one living in your body. You are the only one who knows its quirks and individual characteristics. This doctor is right to acknowledge the OP’s expertise in that knowledge. It’s what stands between individualized care and cookie-cutter care. It’s the difference between, for instance, a doctor blowing me off when I tell him/her that my 99.6F fever is high for me (because I normally run quite a low body temperature) and the one who listens to me and agrees to run tests to find our what’s going on.

Good for this OB! I wish more would consider a mom’s thoughts and feelings.
