“What Is That?”
“What is that!!” - OB preparing to do a pelvic exam on a mother with vaginal boils.
Ladies this one is mine ![]()
I was getting reading to be induced by an OB because my baby was in distress and my midwife couldn’t do the induction. I was afraid for my babys life. The OB made me feel like crap when his face became all distorted and he said,”WHAT IS THAT!?). Thankfully I had a strong nurse who put him in his place.
I definitely think he was a newbie because when I screamed in pain during labor he looked horrified and I thought he’d run out the door.

I’m sorry you dealt with that
Hopefully he’s gone on to develop some tact. Glad you at least had a decent nurse.

You know, I used to get those and never knew what they were, either. I wasn’t sexually active at the time, but they sure were a mystery and they were embarrassing (and VERY painful). But still, there has to be more of a diplomatic reaction than *this*.

OP, I’m sorry you had such a tactless jerk. That would really instill my confidence in his judgment.
I sometimes get ingrown hairs on my labia. The first time I got one, I was about 15-16. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone so it got really infected and extremely painful. When I finally went to the doctor – for the first time ever anyone looked at me down there – he said, “You’ve got your period?” like he was disgusted. He didn’t really examine me but told me it was hemorrhoids. My mom took me back the next day and read him the riot act. He looked shocked when he saw it. When he lanced it, pus just came gushing out.

I love you guys! I have one hair follicle that keeps getting infected but I didn’t know what it was called. Now I know! Thank you!

I have hidradenitis so I know exactly what its like to have sores near the genitals. I also know exactly what it is like to have doctors not GET it.
I can’t imagine dealing with that during birth though.. thats just… people can be so mind boggling.

Jeez doc did you never learn *tact*. Show some respect to the woman who is in a very vulnerable position in front of you!

I heard a quote the other day that I figure you might enjoy: “Tact is about getting the point across without stabbing someone with it”. Dr. Stabby-hands apparently likes to use stabbing comments too.

That is a fantastic statement! And I am totally stealing it.
