Thoughtful Thursday! “Look At You, You Beautiful Birthing Goddess!”
“Look at you, you beautiful birthing Goddess!” – Midwife to mother 30 minutes before birth.
That’s okay, we needed something refreshing after yesterday’s.

The backstory: Yesterday’s was a doozy. The redeeming thing about this “Thoughtful Thursday” is that I am the same laboring mom (dif’t births) in both yesterday’s and today’s posts.
My HBMW is awesome!

My midwife said a similar thing to me, but right after my baby was born. She said: “You are a goddess!” It was the best thing. And then a couple of weeks later, she said “I couldn’t have been prouder of you if I’d been your mother.” (Unmedicated OP birth w/ 3 hrs of pushing.)

I was told by my midwife during the birth that I could do it and I was amazing. After the birth, and even at the 6 week appointment, I was told I am a strong woman. She told me I did a great job, and she really made me feel great. I know she sees women birth all the time, and to hear I handled contractions well, and that I am sooo amazingly strong, that healed me after a birth previously where the nurse basically beat me down and did a lot of “I told you so” stuff while trying to keep me on the bed. THe midwife let me know I am not a failure, not doing birth wrong, not whiny and needy. Even if I need support and help, I am able to go through the stress of labor and come out with dignity. She purposely treated me “like a princess” when she dried me off after my bath (never had anyone dry me off since I was little) and sat me upright instead of making me lay back while in the last stage of labor (I finally wanted to be on the bed). She said I would be sitting up like on a throne. She let me do what I needed to because she believed I was doing the right thing. If she wanted to try something different than I was doing, she explained it and asked. Never did she treat me like I was an idiot even when I was anxious (I had a thing about the clock…and baby being OP always makes me more anxious…it’s a sign of OP for me I think). Even when I nearly fell asleep right before pushing she said, “that’s good, you rest.” She was affirming the whole time.

That’s awesome! I had really similar labors, both the first (undermining) and the second (reaffirming) one. I thought for a few years that I just sucked at laboring. How wonderful to find a midwife who can help to overcome all that fear and heartache. I’m so glad you got to do that.

In honor of Labor Day we should have Thursday all week. Or in honor of not driving me totally insane we should have one good and one bad comment each day from now on.
