“She’s getting down in to a squat because it opens up her pelvis better, to let the baby through.” -Nurse to student nurse while a mother was pushing her baby out.

I’m such a grouchy bear in labor no one dares talk to me! But it was nice for the nurse to say this. She also told the student that they didn’t need to count for my pushes because she could tell by my face and noises that I was pushing effectively.

For a baby who came out forehead first, it was a pretty positive birth in a hospital!

My Midwifery preceptor was like this. I did my S&F module in a country hospital, and in the whole time I was there – 4 weeks – I saw only 1 caesarean. I loved it and I love that I was taught that way.
