“Did I Do Your Cesarean Section?”
“Did I do your cesarean section?” -OB to a mother at a postpartum visit shortly after surgery, in a small town where only two doctors do cesarean surgeries at all.
What, You mean he didn’t sign his work? Even in Med school, you don’t get credit if you don’t put your name on your work……

Nope. After the doctor that got in trouble for burning the initials of his alma mater into the uterus that he was removing (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/guiler1.html), they’ve stopped signing their work.

Well, if you did, I’m sure the work was done SOOO well that you’ll have no problem supporting me in a VBAC if I get pregnant again!

You know, Doc, I’ve heard that crossword puzzles and sudoku are great for preventing senile dementia and repairing short term memory loss.

“You don’t remember my c-section, but I’m sure you’ll remember my VBAC!”

This is mine. Sorry for the delay.
Luckily, this doctor did not do my c-section. However, there are approximately 300 births a year in this small town. Approximately 30% are c-sections (but the hospital thinks they have a reasonable c-section rate even though they take no high risk cases). Therefore, each doctor performs around 50 c-sections a year or one a week… so shouldn’t you remember if you did the surgery less than a month ago? And if not, are you competent to perform surgery at all?

Glance at the chart.
