“You Really Have Very Nice Breasts!”
“You really have very nice breasts!” -OB/GYN to mother during annual breast exam. She was so uncomfortable after this statement she couldn’t talk for the rest of the exam.
At my first breast exam ever when I was pregnant with DS#1 at 18, my OB told me that I had unusually large breasts for a girl my size. I was a D cup at 108 lbs. I was so embarrassed that I didn’t know what to say.

You could have said, “and you have an unusually large mouth for a Dr your size”
This is why I always want my hubby with me at appointments. He always knows how to respond to dumb comments.

Why is a breast exam necessary during pregnancy anyway???

I had to turn my annual exam into a prenatal because I found out I was pregnant about a month beforehand. My doctor did all the annual exam things in addition to the prenatal things, including a breast exam. Since Mercy said it was her first breast exam, I imagine her doctor did one because she was there and had not had one before.

whatever happened to “oh i’m a doctor, i see all this stuff all the time, it’s really no big deal.” that always made me feel more comfortable. instead of being sexualized.

Definitely think there is some over-reaction here. This is a person who looks at breasts all day/ pretty much every day. I would take this just as if the dentist told me I had nice teeth. Seriously. How can you take offense or be uncomfortable with this coming from your doctor??? Just seems really weird to me.

To me the difference between a dentist commenting on my teeth and a doctor commenting on my breasts is that there is a clear cut definition for “nice teeth.” Straight, strong enamel, no cavities, no plaque build-up. What constitutes “nice breasts” is very much a personal opinion, usually a sexual one, and not really something I want to hear from my medical professional.

I don’t think that what he said was an actionable offense- but he should get a letter- it is very inappropriate and unprofessional. If he got a bunch of letters/complaints, then ok, let’s suspend him for a while…. If he said, “I’d like to wrap my lips around your cans and wear your ass like a mask, then we’ve got a real problem.
