Thoughtful Thursday! “We’ll Be Seeing Your Number Two Baby In A Few Minutes!”
“Oh sweetheart, that is exactly what you said last time! We’ll be seeing your number two baby in a few minutes!” -Midwife to mother during transition, when mother said that she could not do it anymore.
To all birth attendants reading, THIS is what a mom needs in transition! Support and encouragement! Not snarky comments like “Well you wanted a natural birth” or “Well if you would have let us (insert intervention here) you would be done by now”.
Now is not the time to offer interventions or drugs you know she doesn’t want, or to start asking her about donating organs.

This was mine. I was lucky enough to have the same midwife for both my births – 9 years apart and in different birth centres! The stars really alined for that one.
I had very dramatic transitions for both and each time she was so encouraging and understanding
I think I can say without a doubt that having the same fantastic midwife for all your births is the cream of continuity of care.

That’s a great comment! My midwife said something very similar as I went through transition. As soon as I felt like I couldn’t keep it together anymore she told me that my baby would be there in 5 minutes. Sure enough – my son was born soon after.

Great comment! I love it when providers are reasuring mothers rather than undermining their confidence.
