“This One Is Less Alive…”
“This one is less alive…” OB to mother at 12 week ultrasound of twins, when one baby was active and moving around and the other was was not.
That’s horrible!
Was the OB trying to do his best Miracle Max impersonation or something?
Poor Mama.

Embarrassingly, I was thinking of Monty Python and a tiny baby yelling- “I’m not dead yet! I want to go for a walk!”

I’m literally about to ROFL at that! Which would be bad since I’m nursing my LO!

The doctor should have known that just because the baby is moving doesn’t mean it’s alive. :-b
I was thinking that this really might be a slip for “lively” but really, there are days when *I* am not very lively, and to the best of my knowledge I haven’t passed on yet. Maybe he just missed that twin’s active period.
If the OP comes back, please let us know how both twins are doing, okay?

Boy, what a poor choice of words. Not knowing this particular OB, I really hope s/he was referring to activity ie: Twin B is nat as active at the moment. I can’t tell you the number of times an OB has said something and when s/he leaves the room the family turns to me and ask what did s/he mean by (whatever). Sometimes, I feel like I should be able to claim them as dependants for all the messes I clean up. I’m with Sheva on this. I’d really like to know the outcome of this twin pregnancy.

How about, one is awake, the other is sleeping? Good grief.
Yes, let’s hope this was just a slip of the tongue. But would any of us be surprised if it wasn’t? *sigh*

I’m the OP.
It was a slip of the tongue (my OB was an excellent “technician”, but had a really clinical/ cold bedside manner); twin B was simply asleep. It was a horrible few minutes though, especially as we had been ttcing 3 years and the twins were the result of our third round of fertility treatment.
The twins were born at 39 weeks by medically necessary c-section. They are 2 years old now, perfectly healthy, and were joined 5 weeks ago by my VBAC baby.

Thanks for letting us know!
I’m so happy both of your twins are doing well, and congrats on your new baby!

Okay, doc, let’s pull out the thesaurus and search for a word/term with a better connotation, such as: lively, active, mobile, precocious, etc.
I have to say, though, I am almost certain this comment was meant to say “This one’s not moving around as much” and just came out sounding terribly wrong. We all make verbal gaffs and say the wrong word or phrase, and I think this is a simple case of doctor-is-human (I hope). At least the placenta wasn’t falling off!
