“If You Don’t Let Me Break Your Water, You Are Going To Be Here All Day.”
“If you don’t let me break your water, you are going to be here all day.” -OB to mother whose baby was born 45 minutes later.
This isn’t my comment but something similar was said to coerce me into agreeing to have my water broken during my first labor. I was 9.5cm when my water was broken. I was laboring right along just fine until the OB showed up and made me get out of the tub and in general harrassed me. Breaking the water didn’t speed me up or change the intensity of the contractions either. They were already plenty strong enough.
With my second baby my water broke a day and a half before I went into labor. Admittedly I had an easy 4 hour labor once it started but I don’t think my water breaking had anything to do with it.

My youngest child was born after about 5 hours of labor or so. 15 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. Nobody broke my water. She came out “through the caul” basically it was still partly wrapped around her.
The midwife said some people believe when a girl is born that way, it means she will probably be a midwife. I think it would be completely awesome if that happened, but I know she will be completely awesome whatever she does when she is grown, and I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her (hopefully never TOO far away to visit her mom).

Oh, so broken water means fast labor??? Tell that to my body; my water broke naturally after days of labor, but I didn’t have my daughter for another 14 hours or so.
I love it when drs are this arrogant, since it backfires SO often. Ha ha!

Yeah, my body is apparently confused, too. With my first birth, my water broke at the start, and my son wasn’t born until almost 24 hours later. Second birth? My son was born in an intact sac after a precipitous labor!

Yup, mine, too. My water broke early in both my labors. 6 hours into my first one (22 1/2 hours) and 9 hours into my second (23 1/2 hours).
