Thoughtful Thursday! “Your Uterus Is Doing A Beautiful Job.”
“Your uterus is doing a beautiful job.” -OB to a VBAC mother during her labor
As a L&D nurse, I can see where she was coming from saying this. Basically, the risk for a VBAC is the very tiny risk that the uterus could tear, her telling her that her uterus was doing a good job was reassuring her that there were no problems, no signs of tearing, that her body (and uterus) were doing a GOOD JOB!
What the hell is wrong with that?

I think this was mine. My OB was really great during my labor, even when I was begging for an epidural during transition no one in the room even moved because it. was obvious that I was almost ready to push. She even suggested I try to push on hands and knees; which was great too because the shoulders did get stuck and I was already in the best position.
We had plenty of disagreements during my pregnancy, about things like how long past my edd she would ‘let’ me go (this was my 2nd VBAC and I delivered the first at 42 weeks). But she was definately the best I could have had around here.
She, by the way, has had two hypnobirths.
