“…Have This Cesarean Tonight So You Don’t Have To Labor All Night Long.”
“Yes, you can have a vaginal birth after this cesarean section. You should go ahead and have this cesarean section tonight so you don’t have to labor all night long.” OB. Chart notes said that mother’s hips were too small to deliver a baby. Years later, mother was denied a VBAC.
I’m confused. Did she have a VBAC then? And since when is ‘mother’s hips too small’ a professional medical diagnosis? What an ass.

No I don’t believe she did. It sounds like the ob convinced her to have a c-section and when she asked about the possibility of having a VBAC with future children he/she told her it wouldn’t be an issue. Then she was denied a VBAC for a future birth. So unless she went on to find another provider who would help her, she didn’t get a VBAC.

This happened with my mom – after laboring all night on her back, wanting to get up but not being allowed, someone finally decided it wasn’t working, and I was sectioned out of her. It was chalked up to small hips, and she was told to have repeat c/s for the rest of her kids.
Now she’s starting to wonder what could’ve happened had she just been able to get up and move like her body wanted to.

Yes, what a long emotional journey!
This was my submission and I am happy to say that I did in fact change providers—-as many times as it took to get the experience that I desired and needed for myself and baby. I quizzed my new OB years later & got the “our malpractice ins. won’t cover that…”wrong answer. Quizzed more providers and got more negative feedback.
When I became pregnant, I found a doctor who had privileges to allow a VBAC at the hospital, but I started to get to know myself even better and had a strong feeling that I could do this without all of the internal fetal monitoring that would be required at the hospital. I hired a midwife and enjoyed every single hour long extended visit!
I delivered my daughter at home and my husband assisted the midwives. Wonderful, happy ending and beginning to new life.
And my hips are just fine and always have been. I had to get the surgical report for my midwife and we reviewed it together to determine that I had a low transverse scar and it matched internally as well. There just happened to be the reason for the c-sec on the report: cephalopelvic disproportion. LIE!
**The reason I so easily consented to the c-sec in the first place was that I was young, naive, and never thought to NOT do whatever a doctor suggested.

Congratulations on educating yourself and getting your VBAC!
CPD was my official diagnosis, but due to baby’s big head, not my hips *rolls eyes* It was actually that I wasn’t ready to push yet, but I was in transition and couldn’t argue
I had my VBAC, too, but not as awesome an experience as yours
Way to go!

Lynette, I’m glad you had such a happy ending.
And even us ‘old, learned veteran mothers’ LOL still fall victim to the BS – I know I did at times and it’s really hard to let your inner b!tch escape once in a while
when you’re equally concerned about your baby’s health.
I wish I had interviewed more doctors before having my third, instead of just taking the recommendation of a friend. If there is a next time, I will make sure I really do more homework on that part.

This sounds like what my OB did to me 10 hours into my induced VBAC. She bullied my husband at the time (now ex) by telling him “sign the papers and have the c-section now or we do it later when the baby is dead”. Turned out there was nothing wrong with my baby, but I ended up with back problems (after 10 tries they couldn’t get the spinal in correctly and had to put me completely under when I went into disstress from them stabbing at my spinal cord), bladder problems and pnuemonia.

Because that’s probably the only way he’d be there to “catch”, since he clearly wants to go home instead.
