Thoughtful Thursday! “If You Want To Do This Drug-Free, Just Make Up Your Mind To Do It. You Can!”
“If you want to do this drug-free, just make up your mind to do it. You can.” -L&D Nurse to mother who told her she was hoping to have a non-medicated birth but was keeping her options open.
Yay! Now if only her OB could have told her this …
Supportive L&D nurses ROCK!

My L&D nurses actually pulled my husband aside during my first delivery and flat out told him I was crazy for wanting to do it naturally.
They told him all sorts of crazy thinqs about emergency c sections, and that if I didn’t have the baby soon, I would likely need one anyways and a epi would really help move things along…
My husband was not happy about the no epidural thing to begin with, and had (and still has) a deep rooted belief that hospitals are the best place to give birth, so he ended up talking me into one!
Needless to say that didn’t happen the 2nd time around. I made it very clear that if one single person mentioned pain meds while I was in labor I was leaving and having the baby at home alone in my bathtub, so they all better check themselves!

I’m the mom for this one too! So sorry I missed these posts!
But, partially because of the negative attitude of my OB, I was absolutely ready to battle the whole of L&D for a peaceful, natural, unmedicated birth, but was trying to come across as “laid back” about intervention so I wouldn’t make enemies immediately. (We SO should NOT have to worry about things like that while preparing to birth our children!!) I can’t tell you how (well.. I’m sure many of you reading this KNOW) valuable it was to have the unexpected support, and how it enabled me to relax and focus on the task at hand. Those nurses were wonderful!
