Thoughtful Thursday! “I…Encourage Eating and Drinking!”
“I don’t suggest an IV during labor but encourage eating and drinking.” -Midwife to mother.
Yay! The starving of laboring women is one of my biggest problems with the medicalized childbirth system. Its great to hear a midwife say this. (I’m assuming she’s a hospital midwife because it sounds like the IV is available, but the mw doesn’t like using them.)

Actually, I’ve known plenty of homebirth midwives who have the equipment and skills to do an IV at home. It’s rare, saved for when it’s really needed (things like hemorrhage, dehydration, etc., or if mom chooses IV abx for GBS and it’s a CNM), but it can be done.

I love this comment. All 3 of my girls have been with midwives. WHAT I learned with #1, Lemon Line Gatorade does not sit right with me in labour. BUT my last child being a home birth. Threw contractions My midwives were reminding me to eat/snack. AND yes they are equiped as a Trage 1 hospital. so IV bages are in their slew of things
