“…I’ll Just Pinch It Closed Right Here…”
“Well, I’ll just pinch it closed….right…..here….because that makes me uncomfortable.” -OB after being reminded that parents wanted the cord to stop pulsing before clamping. OB then muttered an aside, “I don’t know where people get these ideas.”
WTH?? Yeah, because once the baby is outside its mother’s belly, the umbilical cord starts pumping poison into its body, right?? I agree with you, Rebecca…must stop reading these first thing! Ack!

That needs to be made into a t-shirt or keychain or something. You get a gold star for sarcasm.
Also, if you’re an OB, and the pulsing umbilical cord freaks you out… maybe you should switch careers. Poop? Sure! Blood? No problem! Pulsing cord? AAAAHHH NO! Deny patient request for my own benefit! Oh whew, I feel better.

Give birth in the UK. NHS policy is to let the cord stop pulsating. This shows that the artery leading to the lungs is now working. Before the baby takes it’s first breath the oxygen in the babys blood comes from the mother, until it stops pulsing it is still getting oxygen from the mother. (I’m a bloke from the UK who is studying to become a nurse and has a pregnant for the second time wifey.)
