“…It’s Just A Little Bit Of Blood Loss.”
“Don’t be so melodramatic, It’s just a little bit of blood loss” -OB to another OB after a 2 liter postpartum hemorrhage.
This doesn’t surprise me. Most people tend to talk to colleagues at work in a way that would be viewed negatively by outsiders. What does surprise me is that they were heard!! Can I ask who heard them make the comment and whether it was overheard or did the OB appear not to care that they might be heard?

They were arguing over my bed in C/S recovery after nurses called an OB higher up the food chain. The nurses were not happy with the resident OB in charge. By this stage I was going into hemorrhagic shock and required numerous units of blood.

Kitty, after the stupid OB pulled my placenta out, I lost 1 litre and started going into shock, too. You must be super strong to be OK after losing that much. I didn’t need a transfusion (my choice, they offered), but the OB was very concerned. The fact that the bitch OB didn’t think you losing 2 litres of blood was a big deal is insane.

I lost two litres on the table after my third caesarean – I didn’t ‘need’ a transfusion and was put on iron tablets for 3 months. My son needed a transfusion as the placenta was cut. I felt dizzy and a bit out of it, but they still made me walk to the next ward after 22 hours and sent me home after 2 nights in hospital. I disn’t realize losing that much blood was a problem, as I haven’t been told or treated as if I nearly wasn’t here any more. This was 11 months ago,and I don’t think I have processed it yet. But it truly sucks that the ‘professionals’ would be so dismissive in earshot – my theatre nurses were nothing but efficient and responsible.I have had no follow up treatment, me and my son are ok – he is a gorgeous healthy (nearly) toddler and his big brother and sister love him to bits!
